The Extension Service provides research-based educational programs and information to improve the economic, social, and cultural well-being of all Mississippians. Extensions’ overall purpose is education. Education will empower people to make intelligent decisions relating to their vocations, their families, and their environment. The department’s unique interdisciplinary perspective enables the organization to make a real difference in the lives of Mississippians. This system is supported through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Mississippi State University, four research and extension centers, and eighty research-based information and educational programs. The Extension is the off-campus educational arm of Mississippi State University and is also a cooperating partner with Alcorn State University.
