The office of County Administrator is required by Section 19-4-1 of the Mississippi Code of 1972 as amended, in counties required to operate under the countywide system of road administration. Pike County is required to operate under that system.
Sections 19-4-3 through 19-4-9 of the Mississippi Code of 1972, as amended, spells out the terms of employment, compensation, duties, and responsibilities of the office of county administrator.
In Pike County, the county administrator is responsible for administering all county affairs falling under the control of the board of supervisors and carrying out the policies of the board. The county administrator is responsible for the financial affairs of the county which includes:
- Purchase of all county goods and services
- All personnel and payroll functions of the county
- Payment of all county bills
- Proper receipt of all monies due to the county
- Preparation of all county financial records
- Schedule maintenance and repairs to all county buildings
- Assist in the preparation of the fixed asset inventory of the county
- Assist the Solid Waste Department
- Assist the Board of Supervisors in the preparation of the county budget and tax levy
The county administrator must make reports to the board of supervisors concerning the affairs of the county and keep them fully advised as to the financial condition of the county and future financial requirements.
